Rich history and culture of Ermionida

“Gorge Katafiki” 

is located 5 kilometers from the town of Ermioni. The combination of rocks, caves and lush vegetation make an enchanting landscape and an interesting route that takes about an hour. At this point you can admire the rare species of Argolic orchids and birds. This is the cave that served as the entrance to Hades, where as they say Hercules took Cerberus, where the king Hades rose to the upper world to steal the beautiful Persephone, where residents hid from attacks by pirates.

“Cave Frachti” 

in Kilada one of the most important prehistoric sites of the Greek region and one of the largest caves in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. This is a huge hole in the limestone slope of steep hill “Frachti”, with depth of 150 m and 30 m wide entrance. Excavations have revealed the shocking discovery of a prehistoric man who lived here. There were found obsidian tool, pottery, female idols, statues, beads, jewelry and polished seashells. All this is kept in the Archaeological Museum of Nafplion.

Place “Papulia”

, located approximately two kilometers from the village Furnus. Sit back and relax in the shade of pine trees and cool with crystal clear spring water.

“Lagoon Fermisia” 

In the picturesque village of the same name known Fermisia there is a lagoon area. Both, the village and the lagoon took its name probably from some hot springs that existed in this region. Today is one of the most important habitats of the area which is included in the national and global systems of social protection, such as the European network CORINE BIOTOPS. Thousands of rare migratory birds come here every year to find shelter.

“Caves of Dolines” 

in the village of Didima. Outside the village of Didima there are two geological formations in the form of a crater, Little and Big Cave, also known as Dolines Caves, with an impressive size and approximately the same diameter, probably formed by the collapse of land. This spectacular views, with which visitors encounter, lures them to explore this place.

“Avgo Monastery” 

Above the canyon Rada, on the northern slopes of Mount Avgo (853 m.) Is unknown to many historic monastery, which retains its shape from the 11th century. The monastery is called Avgo which translated from Greek means egg.

“Peninsula Bisti” 

Green pined peninsula Bisti on the edge of village Ermioni is an important outdoor archaeological site with big history and culture. There is a restored windmill whitewashed old town castle, the ruins of the ancient temple of Athena and Poseidon and the remains of “cyclopean walls”.
